Zandy & Tavior Mowry

Artists.Storytellers.Parents.Builders.

Some journeys don't begin where we expect. Sometimes life changes tracks before we discover who we were meant to become.

Explore Their Journey

Meet the Mowrys

Multidisciplinary artists, musicians, parents, and creative entrepreneurs.

Zandy and Tavior Mowry are creators whose work explores identity, family, creativity, and purpose. Together they embody what Heritage & Hustle believes.

Education happens everywhere. Not only in classrooms, but inside studios, living rooms, stages, communities, relationships, failures, and dreams.

“We don't just create art. We create lives worth remembering.”

Zandy

Zandy grew up creative, finding her voice as a founding member of the acclaimed group The New Respects long before she understood where music might carry her. Sound became her first language, a universal one that could move a room without translation.

Over time her practice widened into visual art and mixed media, layering fabric, image, and text into work that holds memory and identity. Wherever she creates, she builds community around the work, treating representation not as a theme but as a responsibility.

Somewhere along the way, creativity became service, a way of making room for others to be seen.

What Zandy teaches us

  • Identity before industry.
  • Joy is serious work.
  • Art creates belonging.

Tavior

Tavior arrived at art through an ending. A football player at UC Davis, a career ending injury closed one door and forced a harder question: who am I when the game is gone?

He answered slowly, learning guitar, then production, then songwriting, then filmmaking. Each new medium was a new track laid in the dark. Night Train grew out of that instinct to document the search itself.

Today his work is anchored by family, faith, and a refusal to perform anything but the truth. Authenticity is the throughline of everything he makes.

What Tavior teaches us

  • Reinvention is strength.
  • Purpose evolves.
  • Adversity introduces new gifts.

Reinvention

Reinvention doesn't arrive with instructions

When football ended, Tavior had no manual for what came next. He built one anyway, turning an ending into an entirely new beginning, one instrument and one frame at a time.

That is the heart of what Heritage & Hustle teaches: learning never stops, and the greatest classrooms are rarely the ones we planned to enter. Growth is a practice of laying new track toward a destination you can't yet see.

The Documentary

Night Train

Chapter One01

Night Train

A cinematic journey through creativity, the story of two artists, one family, and the tracks they lay for the next generation.

Chapter Two02

The Work

Night Train follows the Mowrys as they prepare work for an upcoming exhibition in Seattle while raising two young children and balancing careers rooted in artistic expression.

Chapter Three03

Who are you? Where are you going?

Follow the tracks. The documentary lingers in the questions artists ask themselves in the dark before the work reveals its shape.

Chapter Four04

The S.T.A.G.E. Residency

Heritage & Hustle invited the Mowrys into S.T.A.G.E., an intensive residency connecting nationally recognized artists with historically BIPOC cultural spaces in Seattle. It documents not only the artwork, but the conversations, questions, and transformation that happen throughout the creative process.

The Connection

Why their story matters

Heritage & Hustle exists because education extends far beyond formal institutions. The Mowrys embody exactly what the organization teaches, that some of the greatest classrooms are found inside homes, rehearsal spaces, studios, and neighborhoods.
